My 2013 in Review
So, 2013 is coming to an end soon. So I thought, why not write up a post about how my 2013 went. I’d love to hear yours too so put it in the comment section below 🙂
I would say 2013 has been one of my most successful years so far in my life. I have had success in a lot of things however I have also missed out on quite a few things which I may regret for the rest of my life.
So, my 2013 began with me watching the New Years fireworks in Central London with a few of my good friends from college. That night was a blast! Having never been to the new year celebrations before, I found it a great night out with friends. It is sure one of the nights I will remember for a few more years. The new years day began with me posting a Facebook status wishing all my friends a happy new year – I know you did too :P. However, since coming back so late from the new years celebrations, I was a bit tired so didn’t do much on that day.
Anyway, moving on from 1st of January to mid-January. This is the time where I had lots and lots of exams (mainly retakes) for the A-levels which I was taking for the past year and a bit. I had done badly in the summer exams on 2012 so had to do quite a few exams in January as well to make up for it… And lets say, the exams in January didn’t go as planned. I had such a hectic schedule with my ICT coursework and exams and all. I also started watching anime to get some stress off my studies but it backfired on me so much that all I did was watch anime and revision was minimal. So January wasn’t a great month for me overall.
February and March weren’t great months for me too since ICT coursework had the deadline of end of march so all I did during those months was the coursework and school work. Some family friends meet-ups and some parties but not much else.
April was the month where all I did was revision for May and June exams. This was my last chance at doing good at something which I had failed doing good in for the past 2 years. I had spent a lot of time watching anime – a habit which I picked up in January – and watched lots and lots of episodes of Naruto in one go. Sometimes, staying up late at night before the exam to watch the anime. It is a great anime – no doubt about that – but I had picked the worst time to start watching an anime series which is 500+ episodes long. There were lots of mistakes that I made during the study period which came back to bite me later on.
May started off well with me getting my Careers Academy certificate for completing the course over the past two years. It was one of the best experiences I have had and I think that has helped me a lot in my university course choices and so on. The exams in May and June were pretty tough, especially C3 for maths which had a really bad response all over the country. However, thinking I did well in those exams, I went on an early holiday to India! Read all about my holiday to India here and here (coming soon).
After coming back from India, it was the results day on the 15th of August (the day of India’s independence and could have been mine as well :P). To be honest, it was the worst day of my life so far. I had expected to do better than what my predicted grades were and I came out with B in Mathematics (improvement from C), C in ICT (regression from B) and D in Physics (improvement from E). However, I had high hopes in getting ABC which was required for entry into Queen Mary’s University but I didn’t get the grades so… yeah. So with these grades, I had got entry into University of Westminster.
On September 16th, I joined University of Westminster, doing Computer Science. It was a completely new challenge to me. For the first time in my life, I had to travel 1 hour on tube to get to my place of education. Most of my lectures started pretty late in the day so I never had the problem to wake up early and going to university early in the morning :D.
October 2013 has changed my life a lot this year. We had to apply for the Channel 4 Internship during October and had the interview/assessment day during October as well. The day was a tough challenge to get through, but it came out great when they replied telling me that I was offered the internship! Once I had told my family in India that I got this internship, they were even more excited than I was. Maybe because I am the first in the family to get such an internship.
November was a pretty easy month for me with end of semester exams coming up. The exams went really well. Since Computer Science was a subject I liked, the exams we did were to my knowledge too. Having a computer-based background where quite a few people in my family are computer engineer, it helps a lot. The exams were great, the courseworks were simple to do as well. November was great!
December was my first month where I had to work full time during the Christmas holidays at work. And I am glad that I have something other to do in the holidays than just sitting at home browsing Reddit and YouTube. Not much happened in December, but one great thing December brought to me was an interest in blogging. Before last week (at the time writing this) I never had an interest in blogging. However, one day I just started writing and kept on writing. I never thought I would love blogging so much and I am glad I took this option.
All in all, 2013 has been a great year for me. I have made a lot of great friends and had great experiences. Special shout outs go to a my friends who have helped make 2013 a great year for me. Thank you all!
2014 will be here soon (in about 8 hours for me) and I wish you all a very Happy New Year and hoping that the next year goes great for you! See you all in 2014!
